EPUs offer a long list of advantages over other embedded computer board products, including:
There are many more advantages, including being almost obsolescence proof. On top of VersaLogic's standard 5-year availability guarantee and Product Life Extension programs, EPUs support easier technology migration.
Migrate in the future to an EPU with a newer CPU module, but keep your existing I/O configuration and connectors for drop-in compatibility. That's an easy upgrade / migration!
Today's embedded computer boards come in all shapes and sizes, so why is it so hard to select one for your application? New applications demand more performance, have power and heat constraints, need higher levels of reliability, and have to fit into a budget. That doesn't make the selection process simple.
VersaLogic's new EPU embedded computers can put the "easy" back into the selection process. The key is flexibility.

The Embedded Processing Unit (EPU) story revolves around the flexibility of using a 2-board set to form a complete embedded computer product. Creating separate CPU and I/O modules, which are then tightly sandwiched together as a final product, allows for a wide range of advantages, and a footprint half the size of equivalent single board computers.
VersaLogic EPU products are designed around the COM Express form factor. EPU products provide all the future flexibility of separate CPU and I/O modules, but are delivered as fully assembled and tested units (including heat plate).
VersaLogic EPU products eliminate the difficulty of trying to do a custom-designed carrier card around available COM Express modules. EPUs eliminate the expertise needed to design with high speed signals, validate the I/O circuits to make sure they work properly, create testing methods for the finished units, etc. The effort required to create software drivers, BIOS customization, and API code for the on-board I/O, is also eliminated.
But most importantly, the EPU products eliminate the 12+ month delay to design and test a custom carrier card, as well as the cost of assembling and testing the units during production. Many EPU purchasers started out with a "design-it-yourself" plan, and quickly realize the substantial challenges, investment, and time delays involved with that approach.
Purchasing a carefully designed, fully validated EPU product today, compared to investing a year or more of development effort for unpredictable results, is an easy call for most organizations.
Leverage VersaLogic's extensive design and manufacturing expertise to simplify your next project. See the "Product Features" and "EPU Configuration" tabs to determine whether one of VersaLogic's rugged, off-the-shelf EPU embedded computer models is a fit for your application.
EPUs are currently offered with 8 CPU choices (performance levels) and 6 I/O configurations. Select from some of the popular in-stock models below. Built-to-order configurations are also available.
